Ingredients

  • 1tbs Whirl butter alternative
  • 2tbs Lion Original Piri Piri Hot Sauce
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1tbs tomato puree
  • 1tsp smoked paprika
  • Pinch of sugar
  • 1kg peeled potatoes cut into 2cm chunks
  • Sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Heat the Whirl in a large sauce pan and sauté the onions and garlic to soften, but not brown, about 3 minutes.

  2. Stir in the Lion Original Piri Piri Hot Sauce, tomatoes, tomato puree, smoked paprika and sugar. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened slightly and pulpy.

  3. Meanwhile heat the oil in a deep fryer to 160°C (preferably olive oil) and deep fry the potatoes for 5 minutes drain and cool slightly.

  4. Turn up the fryer to 180°C and fry for a further 5 minutes till golden and crisp, then place in a deep bowl, pour over the hot sauce and serve.
