At AAK Foodservice our purpose is “Making Better Happen”. We believe that one of the many ways we do this is by giving back, and on Tuesday September 13th, members of our Hillside, New Jersey team did just that in the very community we are based in. With a departure from our typical workday, we partnered with The Community Foodbank of New Jersey to volunteer our time & efforts towards a great cause that we believe in, and in doing so, strengthen our bond as a team.

Originally starting from a station wagon in downtown Newark, New Jersey in 1975, The Community Foodbank of NJ now have 2 facilities in Hillside and Egg Harbor Township the combined size of 5 football fields. “Right now, hunger in New Jersey affects more than 650,000 people, including 175,000 children. As the state’s largest anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization, we combat food insecurity with a multifaceted approach.” – CFBNJ.org.

Our intent was not just to donate monetarily, but to give our time. We spent the afternoon at their facility sorting, weighing, and packaging food boxes to help our hungry neighbors. We came together as a team and filled 462 boxes in less than two hours.

Xenia Ferencevych, Corporate Volunteer Manager Community Foodbank of New Jersey commented “We were delighted to host your volunteer group and very impressed by your commitment and hard work, we are so grateful for your support and service!”

Last year, The Community Foodbank of NJ distributed over 86 million meals to local families in need, and we were happy to be a part of their initiative to fight hunger and poverty with food, help and hope.

At the end of the day we were grateful for the opportunity and left with a sense of fulfilment, a strengthened connection as a team and the inspiration to continue to support and volunteer our time & efforts towards programs like these.
