Prep blends meet new legislation, with no loss of performance
10th May 2021
New legislation came into effect on 1 April 2021 which requires that no food should contain more than 2g of trans fat per 100g of fat.
To ensure that all of our high performance frying oils would continue to meet every relevant standard, we undertook a detailed review of each blend last year.
Two of our most robust oils - Prep Maxi and Prep Ultra - would be affected by the legislation. This is because the trans fats, which naturally occur in both blends, exceeded 2g per 100g.
We therefore set ourselves the challenge to reduce the trans fats within the Maxi and Ultra blends, without compromising their fry life performance and excellent frying properties. All of the other Prep blends would meet the new standard without adaptation.
We have been able to reduce the trans fat in our Ultra blend to less than 1% - just under half of the new, legal limit. And we have been able to take even more out of our heavy duty Prep Maxi blend.
Most importantly of all, we have been able to achieve this without changing their appearance and frying performance. Both also now contain high oleic sunflower oil, which is high in monounsaturated fat and low in saturated fatty acids.
The new blends have already gone into production ahead of the new legislation date. So, if you use either Ultra or Maxi, you can continue to do so with complete confidence.
