1 million plastic bottles will use 50% recycled PET
31st May 2022
As part of our commitment to finding and implementing Better Solutions, our Dalby production site in Sweden has changed over 1 million PET plastic bottles supplied to the Sweden, Denmark and German markets, to now contain 50% recycled PET plastic.
This covers both the 750ml and 1L bottles, on both AAK branded and private label products.
The move means over 15 tonnes of virgin plastic has been replaced by recycled material – saving the equivalent of making half a million new bottles from virgin plastic.
Quote from Rachel Neale, Marketing Director, AAK Foodservice…
“While plastic is hugely convenient and offers a wide range of benefits to both producers and consumers within foodservice and retail, we’re growing more conscious than ever before about its environmental impact.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to improving sustainability both at AAK Foodservice and for our customers, we’re continually looking at ways to cut down our use of plastic and make the plastic we use more recyclable and sustainable, while ensuring we’re still providing great products.
“By adding 50% recycled PET plastic to 1 million bottles, we’re reducing the amount of virgin plastic we are using, while ensuring we provide the same great product to our customers in Sweden, Denmark and Germany.”
There are many benefits to using PET materials. Not only is the material recycled and recyclable, but it is also cost-effective to produce and requires less energy to transport; safe, because it does not shatter and cause a hazard if broken or damaged; and convenient because bottles are both safe and lightweight.
Improving plastic packaging is one way we’re Making Better HappenTM. While we’re only just at the start of our journey, we’re planning to drive changes across our packaging by identifying and bringing to market packaging solutions around reducing the total amount of plastic we use, making the plastic we do use recyclable and decreasing the amount of virgin plastic we use.
